IVCH Babysitting Clinic

The IVCH Babysitting Clinic is for young people ages 11 - 13 years old. The cost includes lunch and snacks.

Class size is limited and registration is required. You may register online, for a limited time, or register your child by calling Manessa at 815-780-3337.

To ensure your child's safety, we ask that you bring your child to IVCH Conference Room A and pick your child up at the same location immediately after class at 2:00 pm.

It is good to bring a sweater or jacket as sometimes the conference room is chilly.

Lipid Profile Screening

Lipid profiles are available monthly on Thursday and Saturday, except in the months of April and October. A lipid profile provides information about heart disease risk factors found in the blood, including HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Best results are obtained if blood for the profile is drawn after a 10-12-hour fast. Call for information and to schedule an appointment.

Changes in the Advanced Directive Laws

New Advance Directive Forms to be available at the IVCH Public Program.

Illinois’ new advance directive forms will be part of the packet of information everyone receives who attends a free Illinois Valley Community Hospital public program about recent changes in the state’s advance directive law.

Advance directives are written statements about how an individual wants medical decisions made when he or she is no longer able to make them. Living wills, durable power of attorney for health care, do-not-resuscitate orders and the declaration for mental health treatment are the most common advance directives.

IVCH social worker Relynn Olivero will present the program, which will include a question-and-answer session at its conclusion.

Freedom From Smoking -June 5th - July 17th

The American Lung Association "Freedom from Smoking" is sponsored by Illinois Valley Community Hospital. Facilitator, Linda Pinn, RN will discuss strategies to quit smoking and remain nicotine free.

Please note that the eight-session-seven-week course will be held each Tuesday from June 5 - July 17 (and Thursday, June 28) from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., at the IVCH CPRA, 2nd floor conference room, adjacent to the Peru YMCA.

Registration & payment for the required course materials will need to be made by May 30, 2012.

IVCH Red Cross Blood Drive

IVCH will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive.

Potential donors are strongly encouraged to make an appointment to give blood by contacting Jackie Barr, Volunteer Services Coordinator, via e-mail at jackie.barr@ivch.org or by telephone at 815-780-3387.

If you prefer to "Walk-In," please contact Jackie Barr.

According to the Red Cross, donors are eligible to give blood if they last gave blood on or before April 6, 2012, are in good health, are at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds.

Please note that Red Cross regulations regarding the safety of the nation's blood supply require all donors to present proof of identification before they can donate.

Prepared Sibling Class

Led by Sandy Ghighi, R.N., this class is structured to prepare children over the age of 2 for the arrival of a new family member. The one-session class features a tour of the IVCH obstetrics unit, birthing rooms, nursery and waiting area. A film will also be shown.

Cancer Survivors' Breakfast

Breastfeeding 101

Expectant mothers who plan to breastfeed can have their questions answered at the Breastfeeding 101 class. The class is taught by registered and board-certified lactation consultant Mary Coutts, I.B.C.L.C. The one-session class about the basics of breastfeding is offered every other month. "Compassionate Friends" Support Group

Compassionate Friends, a support group that assists families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age, meets monthly at IVCH. Meetings are on the fourth Thursday and are held in the special procedures conference room near the West Street lobby.

The Compassionate Friends is a national not-for-profit, self-help support organization that offers friendship, understanding and hope to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings.

Prepared Childbirth Classes

The next series of Prepared Childbirth classes for women in the last trimester of pregnancy begins at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in Conference Room “A” at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru.

Additional sessions are scheduled for May 9, 16 and 23.

Taught by Tess Freiburg, R.N., the class concentrates on Lamaze instruction, presenting one phase of the Lamaze method of childbirth at each of the four sessions. All participants are asked to dress comfortably and to bring two pillows and one blanket or exercise mat to each session.

An additional two optional sessions are available and cover breast-feeding and baby talk, respectively.

Grief Recovery Group

IVCH Pastoral Care Coordinator, Deacon Ray Fischer, leads the Grief Recovery Group. The group allows persons who have recently suffered the loss of someone close to them to share their feelings and experiences with others who have also lost loved ones through death.

The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.
